He
was introduced to Detroit techno in 1997
when he moved to Perth during high school.
He would spend all night listening to the Looney
Choons program and Ben Stinga's 'Underground Solution' on
local community radio station RTRFM. A live
interview with Eddie Flashin' Fowlkes made
a deep impact on him, as did a song by a then
19 year old Russian producer in South Korea
by the name of Alex Kislytson. The song 'Yesterday' on
Chris Grey's 'Deep 4 Life' label sent Ben
on a mission to get his own music released
someday.
He
studied English Literature at University, and
continued to make music in his spare time.
He never expected anything like a record deal
to come out of his hobby, but after suggestions
made by some friends, he sent out some demos
and was pleasantly surprised with signings
to Justin Berkovi's Predicaments label, and
Basic Implant's Toneman sublabel 'Musicfirst' in
2003. The Predicaments EP was subsequently
licensed to Universal Records in the Netherlands
in 2004. 2005 saw the release of 'La Cicatriz' on
Spanish net label 'Offaudio'.
2006
will see Ben release on Detroit inspired label
Code316 from France. His secret love affair
with Italo Disco will also come out into the
open with two releases with New York electro
outfit 'Hongkong Counterfeit' and Gigolos singer 'Marc
Ayats' from France. Other releases on German
net labels 'Shrimps and Chips' and 2600 Records
are scheduled for this year too.
Ben's
resides in South Korea, where he works by day
as an ESL teacher, and terrorizes his girlfriend
and neighbors with bass by night. |
