Unit
21
Unit21 was
established in February 2003 in Nizhny Novgorod,
Russia, as an electronic, remix-related project.
The founder is Stanislav Vdovin, whose love of
dance and electronic music grew from listening
to night techno/house radio programs in the late
90's. At first it was decided, that the project
would produce remixes only; and solo tracks, appearing
under another name, would have electronic sound
with indie-rock influences. The man appointed on
the status of guitarist was Eugene Martynov. Further
he had performed all guitar parts for Unit 21.
But after several remixes (of Sleepy Town Manufacture,
Paolo Veneziani, Purusha), which were scheduled
by US division of German techno label Deep and
Dark (nowadays - Cobalt Recordings), some Unit
21's solo tracks were produced as well; and all
other projects, except Unit 21, were left off.
So, Unit 21 produces dance-floor oriented tracks
and remixes in such styles as techno (dub and minimal),
tech-house, deep-tech, tribal and disco-house,
along with chilled ambient and jazzy ones. Unit
21 by now doesn't have any LP released, but the
first techno 2x12" is scheduled on Cobalt for 2005
as well as new EP's on Night-Drive-Music and Russian
net-label Leibniz (leibniz.ru). |
